“

Don’t shackle me to your outmoded ways of work. Trade and barter are more valuable to me than any coin. Besides, I’m plenty busy guest-hosting a blog called The Neon Corset. My band, Shades of Crimson, has taken off. We just booked a gig at the Rusty Rudder.

Is it too soon to invite you to a night of experimental performance and magic? My friends and I are hosting a postvaudevillian event at the VFW Hall. If you attend, I would appreciate if you called me by my new name, Alchemancer. Don’t look so crestfallen, Mom and Dad. At least I’m not into cyberpunk.

Ash to continue album boycott with new release | News | NME.COM → nme.com

“The Northern Irish trio will release the material as stand alone tracks after claiming that the listening habits of modern music fans have changed.”

Hmm…first CDs I ever bought were Trailer & 1977 by Ash.

“A vapid hero, surrounded by ciphers. A one-note villain. A ludicrously elaborate plot, taking what seems like a (wasted) lifetime to unfold. Stunts that ought to be exciting, but are somehow merely tedious. Maggie Gyllenhaal drained, astonishingly, of sex-appeal. Inaudible dialogue and lacklustre cityscapes. Those who consider The Dark Knight the best film ever made, in spite of these attributes, are entitled to their view. But not, surely, to the claim that this woefully disappointing hodgepodge says something useful about the central predicament of our age.” —

A dissenting voice on the new Batman film. I’m to see it on Wed and , despite this lone voice , am very excited.

Hospital

Taking a my cue from Louis I’m going to try and post something a little longer each week.

Next week sees me in hospital a couple of times with my mom and grandma. My wife Kim is a doctor and I occasionally do pastoral visits so the goings on in a hospital are fairly familiar to me. It’s strange however to be simply going along with family members to be a support and an extra pair of ears. If you’re anything like me your natural inclination is to attempt to fix a situation and manage the reactions of those around you. I find I need to fight this … patients feel managed enough as they move through their treatment, the last thing they need is a family member telling them what to do and how to respond.

God certainly doesn’t deal with us this way, he is no stage manager. The Old Testament stories we read so often (Moses, Jonah, Daniel, Gideon) are not stories of God moving pawns around a chess board to complete his plan. No they are stories of human beings struggling to follow God and realising the joy and fulfillment of doing so.

I want to rely more on God and less on myself to bring happy endings to the situations in my life.

“The new record is a very un-orchestral record. It’s a fairly lyric-driven rock record. In fact, we’ve looked at taking a few of the songs on the new record and scoring them for orchestra and it was kind of slim pickins.” —New Ben Folds record “Way to Normal” released Sept 16 on Epic (via Paste Magazine: Catching Up With… Ben Folds)
